Beginners guide to Using Harmony Furniture Paints

If you have never used Harmony Furniture paint or Chalk type furniture paint this is the guide for you. Our paints are self-sealing so you can use them with our without a topcoat. We would recommend possibly using Finish coat on areas that are horizontal such as the top of a Table or a side cabinet or on say Kitchen Cupboard doors for added protection.

Harmony paints are easy to use. Minimal preparation is needed and you do not need to use an undercoat. They are VOC free, high Opacity, Eco friendly and the brushes can be washed out with water. We use only the best acrylic binders in our quality paints. All are handmade to order.

Whatever you are painting there is no need to sand or prime. Just ensure the surface is dust-free. Harmony Paints stick to most surfaces, wood, laminate, metal due to the quality of the product it adheres very well. They can also be finished with Furniture Wax if you want a nice traditional look.

Finish off with our Clear Coat for high traffic areas.

Guide for using Harmony Furniture Paint

  1. Remove Handles and hinges if necessary. Better to mask of hinges as removing can sometimes cause the doors to hang incorrectly
  2. Wipe over the surface with a clean cloth. Use plain water without any chemicals
  3.  Ensure you stir product before use. All our paints settle in transit.
  4.  Dip brush in the pot. Ensure you have loaded enough paint on the brush for it to glide over the surface smoothly. Do not overload the brush. If you want a rough finish to move the brush in different directions. If you want an ultra-smooth finish apply paint in up and down strokes as you would when painting a door.
  5. Brushstrokes can be removed completely by using different tools, for example, if you use a chalk bristle brush you will get a more rough looking finish that is perfect when applying wax, whereas if you want a very smooth finish it’s best to use a fine nylon bristle brush.
  6. Once the paint is dry you can apply a second coat
  7. When both coats are fully dry you can then apply either Clear Coat, Wax or leave it Unfinished.
